Andy Murphy

Associate Principal

Andy Murphy is an Associate Principal at Chartis and is based in Chicago. He has over ten years of experience in Supply Chain Management for healthcare organizations. He specializes in supply and purchased service cost reduction, supply chain process design/improvement, strategic sourcing, clinical and non-clinical product/service conversions, value analysis, inventory management, and data governance.

During his time with Chartis, Andy has led performance improvement engagements involving supply and purchased service expense reduction, strategic contracting, GPO selection, data management and analytics, shared services, value analysis, and clinical conversions. He has helped clients save tens of millions of dollars across all areas of supply and purchased services expense while maintaining or improving operational efficiency, patient safety, and stakeholder satisfaction. These outcomes led to increased customer/clinician satisfaction, reduced inventory and operational expense, as well as standardization of supplies and purchased services. In addition to operational improvement/cost reduction-focused projects, Andy has served as a Supply Chain Subject Matter Expert on growth-focused engagements related to Hospital at Home, mergers/integrations, and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.

Prior to joining Chartis in November of 2019, he worked for the Health Solutions division of FTI Consulting and The Resource Group of Ascension Health. During his time with FTI, Andy led performance improvement engagements involving supply and purchased service expense reduction, strategic contracting, GPO selection, data management and analytics, shared services, value analysis, and clinical conversions. He served as project manager and subject matter expert for engagements that saved clients tens of millions of dollars in annual supply and purchased service expense, while improving the efficiency of their supply chain operations. These outcomes led to increased customer/clinician satisfaction, reduced inventory and operational expense, and standardization of supplies and purchased services. His last project with FTI produced significant operational improvements as well as over $30M in annual savings for a large Midwest health system.

Andy started his career by serving in a variety of supply chain roles with The Resource Group of Ascension Health. He established and led interdisciplinary value analysis teams to standardize supply utilization between departments and facilities, resulting in less variation of practice as well as substantial cost savings. He managed clinical supply and service conversions ranging from surgeon gloves to coronary stents and specialty bed rentals. Andy developed standardized analytical tools and processes that allowed hospitals system-wide to gain insight and visibility into areas of spend that were not historically well-understood by supply chain, such as drug expense, leading to the identification of additional expense reduction opportunities.

Andy earned a certification in the Supply Chain Operational Reference Model (SCOR-S) as an undergraduate, and a Lean/Six Sigma Green Belt Certification in 2019.

Andy holds a BSB in Supply Chain Management from Miami University in Oxford, OH, and an MBA in Finance from The Quinlan School of Business, Loyola University Chicago.
