Michael Topchik

Partner and Executive Director, Chartis Center for Rural Health

Michael Topchik is a Partner and leads the Chartis Center for Rural Health. Michael specializes in rural health network development and benchmarking for performance improvement consulting. He has established himself as a resource for rural providers and networks leveraging diverse data sets – both public and private – to support rural-relevant benchmarking, research, and advocacy.

Through his work with rural health networks, Michael has played a key role in helping to develop additional funding sources through partnerships with private payers, grant writing, and successful efforts to build a rural-focused response to the CMMI Innovation Challenge Grant. He has led research and consulting with rural providers seeking to assess and evaluate ACOs, CCOs, and shared savings opportunities in several statewide efforts.

Michael has been instrumental in shaping iVantage Health Analytics’ annual Rural Relevance Study: Vulnerability to Value, which explores the state of rural healthcare in America. This study has been used by rural health networks, advocacy groups, and policy makers, and has been widely cited in the media as interest in rural provider performance and vulnerable populations has increased in recent years. He is a regular presenter at regional and national conferences on rural healthcare, including events organized by the National Rural Health Association and the National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health.

Michael earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Maine and a Master of Arts from Columbia University in New York City.
