
Tomas Villanueva, DO, MBA, FACPE, SFHM, is a Senior Partner in Clinical Transformation at Chartis. He is a practicing, dual- boarded internist with over 25 years of experience in both clinical and operational leadership. Tomas’ clinical expertise spans the areas of hospital medicine, palliative care, and hospice care, as well as primary care. He has operational expertise in Capacity/Flow, Hospital Medicine Optimization, Utilization Management including Physician advisory, Ambulatory Services, and Mortality Improvement.
Prior to joining Chartis, Tomas was a Senior Principal/Managing Director for Performance Improvement Consulting for Kaufman Hall, a Vizient Company. Prior to consulting, he founded three new hospital medicine programs in South Florida, where he also served as Chief. His strategic foresight led to the establishment of the first Palliative Care program and Hospice GIP at Baptist Health South Florida. Tomas’s passion for innovation led him to transition from acute care medicine to ambulatory care, where he became the first Chief of Primary Care at Baptist Health South Florida, creating dozens of programs within a tri-county area in South Florida.
In addition, Tomas was honored by the Society of Hospital Medicine by participating in their inaugural class of Senior Fellows and is also a Fellow of the American Association for Physician Leadership.
Tomas received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, with honors from Nova Southeastern University and trained at Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he received the Eric Reiss Award for excellence in medical education. He also holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Miami.
