Teresa Benavidez is an Engagement Manager in the Chartis Revenue Cycle Transformation practice. Teresa is an experienced revenue cycle leader with more than 30 years of Health Information Management (HIM) experience including within a large integrated healthcare system. She has a deep understanding of the processes, functions, and technical applications in HIM, Coding, and Revenue Integrity. Teresa is often sought out to help solve specific problems and define leading practice opportunities.
Teresa’s clients have included leading national and regional health systems and academic medical centers. Teresa’s most recent experience includes a revenue cycle transformation project for a regional health system that addressed improvement in workflows, staffing allocation, DNFC reduction, and coding quality audits. Her work has also included managing projects focused on leading practice EMR workflow design for Revenue Integrity, HIM, EMPI Management and Coding departments, developing core documents to support a new client-based coding audit and education program, performing assessments of the CDM, and coaching revenue cycle leaders on performance improvement and integration of leading practices.
Prior to joining Chartis, Teresa served as Corporate Director of Health Information Management, for the Seton Family of Hospitals. During her tenure at Seton, she exceled at leading complex system related performance improvement initiatives. She led teams responsible for implementing programs for enterprise-wide EMPI management, document imaging and deficiency management and reporting. She also led initiatives for the replacement of the encoder software platform and for a revitalization of the clinical document improvement (CDI) program.
Teresa has written articles for national publications and has presented as the local and national level. She is a member of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and Texas Health Information Management Association (TXHIMA). She is a certified registered health information administrator (RHIA).
Teresa holds a Bachelor of Science in medical record administration from Texas State University and a Bachelor of Arts in biology from the University of Texas at Austin.
