Paul Murphree, DO, ScD, is a Partner in Clinical Transformation. He is a distinguished physician executive renowned for his strategic leadership, notably enhancing medical outcomes and operational excellence across various health systems and health plans.
Paul has played a pivotal role in shaping bylaws, rules and regulations, credentialing, and peer review processes. His recent leadership in revising the Professional Practice Evaluation Policy has been particularly impactful, integrating a “Fair and Just Culture” decision guide into the case-review process.
As the leader of quality and safety, Paul has led the system-wide sepsis team and the system code/respiratory arrest committee for a large health system. Paul has directed multiple Root Cause Analyses cases that spanned across multiple facilities. His expertise in safety, process improvement, Lean methodologies, and performance measurements has been instrumental in refining safety and quality programs for over 15 years. Paul has established and nurtured a premier physician leadership academy. His commitment to education extends to regular sessions on peer review and other critical topics.
Prior to joining Chartis, Paul served as Chief Medical Officer at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana and Chief Medical Information Officer at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Additionally, he has established a premier physician leadership academy, where he presents regularly on peer review and other critical medical staff topics.
Paul received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth, Texas. Paul also received a Doctor of Science in Health Systems Management from Tulane School of Public Health in New Orleans, Louisiana. Prior to healthcare, Paul received a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering and worked in advanced avionics, electronics, and computer science for a large military contractor in Fort Worth, Texas.
