Susan Fantin, RN, MSA, CCDS, CDIP, ACM, is an Associate Partner in Clinical Transformation focused on the expansion of clinical documentation integrity and high reliability care.
A nurse with more than 33 years of experience, Susan has experience in a variety of clinical areas, including acute care nursing, case management/utilization review, patient throughput, and clinical house supervision. Her CDI experience spans more than 18 years and includes leading clinical documentation improvement initiatives across academic, rural, and multi-hospital system environments. As senior CDI director at the Advisory Board Company, Susan consulted with medical centers providing physician education, CDI training, and developed a library of best practice materials for ICD-10 physician specialty education. She is a CDI subject matter expert and has extensive experience in quality initiatives involving patient safety indictors, hospital acquired conditions, and mortality reviews as well as data analysis, auditing, and reporting.
Prior to joining Chartis, Susan served as the Vice President of Integrated Care Management at McLaren Health Care with executive oversight for clinical documentation, case management, utilization management, denials, and the physician advisor program. In her role, Susan led efforts to identify and eliminate barriers to transition of care, improve documentation practices, standardize, and implement interventions to achieve improved performance on a multitude clinical documentation and care management metrics.
Susan received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Madonna University and Master of Science in Healthcare Administration from Central Michigan University. She is credentialed as a CCDS, CDIP, ACM, and is a member of ACDIS, AHIMA and the ACMA. In addition, Susan has as a past ACDIS Advisory Board member and Michigan ACDIS chapter lead. She is actively engaged at local, state, and national levels.
